Composite Restorations (White Fillings)

Composite restorations, commonly known as “fillings,” help restore and strengthen a damaged tooth. This is often used for teeth that have succumbed to decay or trauma, or have worn down over time. When this happens, the tooth is severely weakened and is vulnerable to more damage as well as causing you a considerable amount of pain.
Composite restorations match your natural teeth perfectly. The resin used for the fillings actually bonds to your tooth enamel. It is almost impossible to tell where the tooth ends and filling begins. And thanks to advancements in dental technology, a composite restoration is virtually undetectable to the naked eye. Your smile will be just as bright as it ever was!

Composite fillings are the go-to choice today for restorations. In the past, metal amalgam fillings were used. Amalgam fillings did not bond to the tooth, they merely rested in place. Because of this, more of the tooth had to be lost when creating the filling to ensure a snug fit. They were also very strong. That sounds great, of course, but in recent years there’s been more focus on making dental fillings, implants, etc. with the same strength that a natural tooth would have. Since teeth are definitely not as strong as metal, this wasn’t a good match.

Dr. Orobitg would always like to remind his patients that the best filling is the one you never need! Composite restorations are a fantastic solution to the problem of a decayed tooth, but brushing twice a day, flossing, and regularly checking up with your dentist is even better.
